It was only thirty years ago that Iran went from supporting the United States to hating the United States, on November 4th 1979 supporters of the Aytaollah Khomeini stormed the American Embassy taking American diplomats as hostages for 333 days. Many blame former president Jimmy Carter for the storming of the embassy and the taking of the hostage because he abadoned Iran's Shah Mahammad Reza Pahlavi who had a close relations with the United States and his use of human rights in foreign policy lead to the shah being overtrown in 1979. The hostages wouldn't be released until January 20, 1981 the day Carter left office and 30 years later relations between the two countries have gone from bad to worse, Iran's strong relationship with Hezbollah has seen a controversial conflict known as the Iran- Contra Affair that saw Iran take 15 Americans as hostages. Iran's current president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad did participate in the taking of the hostages a result he and his supporters denied.
