It is ironic that the hardest working president James K Polk and the laziest Chester A. Arthur both had short retirements. Polk was retired for 103 days three months and died on June 15. . Arthur on the other hand was retired until November 18, 1886 and died of a kidney disease that he had fought for his entire presidency.
