This is the legacy of Woodrow Wilson, government interference at its jobs. During World War I it was considering disrespectful to drink alchool considering beer was made from grain was the solder's only food source. When the troops returned after two years of fighting, people wanted to end alchool usage. In 1919, Wilson then made the entire country dry and passed the 18th amendment beginning Prohibition. However it failed and was alchool was still against the law as the Roaring Twenties began.
