The 1979 Daytona 500 was the race that put Nascar on the map, a blizzard has covered the Norhteast and CBS had the first flag to flag coverage of the Daytona 500. Cale Yarbourgh and Donnie Allison were batteling for most of race but then on the final lap the two crashed and Richard Petty won his 6th Daytona 500 and a fight between Yarbourgh and Allison brooke out showing what stock car racing was like for the first time.
