Ronald Reagan did fight communists in Hollywood during the Red Scare. When Joesph McCartney began to accuse innocent people of being communists, Reagan informed the FBI about communist in Hollywood. That conflict might have made Reagan a serious anti communist considering he refereed to the Soviet Union as the evil empire.
