Jacques Villeneuve and Mika Hakkinen were both tough competors for Michael Shumacher considering they both won world championships including one that saw Shumacher disqualified in 1997. Even if Shumacher did sit out for most of the 1999 season, Ferrari did win the Constructors championship with Eddie Irvine while Hakkinen was world champion for the second straight year.
